Faye's Birthday

Why does Blogspot keep posting my pics backwards from how I load them? FYI: these pictures are backwards. On Saturday I took Faye to see HSM3. She got to pick 2 friends, and she chose Ella and Charlotte, of course. Daphne also came, because that's how life goes when you have a little sister. When I told my friend Trisha (also Charlotte's mom) what were doing for Faye's birthday she said she was coming too. I think she just might have been more excited than the little girls. I don't know if it's the movies she likes so much or that she's a cougar who's got it bad for Zac Efron. So the movie was cute, but after about an hour I start checking my watch. A little too much cheese for me. The girls were dancing up and down the isle by the end of the movie and they had a blast. Do you like how my girls are all dressed up, they wanted to wear skirts... what weirdos, I guess they thought Troy was actually going to be there.
Sunday was her real birthday and we went to Sean's parents for dinner and b-day festivities. The kids dressed up in their costumes, but I forgot to get a picture of them (Sean's dad got some though). She raked in all sorts of bootie: a Sharpay barbie, a Belle barbie, a Silvermist barbie, some Tinkerbell books, make-up, HSM shirt and some pants, HSM notebooks, pencils, etc, and some new bedding (from us, boring I know).
My sister April also had her baby girl on Sunday. Now Faye and her little cousin will share the same birthday. They named her Neve Avery and she was a whopping 8 lbs. 11 oz. and 21 inches long... GO APRIL!

Faye's Fairy Fondant

For Faye's 6th birthday she wanted a Silvermist fairy cake. (She's one of the fairies in the Tinkerbell books and the movie that is coming out in a couple of days). I decided I wanted to make her one this year, because store bought ones are just so boring, and I have liked making fun birthday cakes in the past. Well I got WAY ahead of myself and thought it would be fun to try fondant. My niece, Nichole made a cake covered in fondant for her little girl back in April and is was so darling.(here's a link to that cake http://houseofhind.blogspot.com/2008/04/big-one.html )I also really love those cool topsy turvey cakes (I call them Madd Hatter cakes...) and started looking up fondant cakes on the web. WOW! I was so inspired and just knew this was going to be something i would like. I even signed up for class learning how to decorate with fondant at Michaels. So I kind of jumped the gun... because this cake too FOREVER. Not even kidding, it was ridiculous. First off, I thought you had to do a homemade cake, so I went with a pound cake and thought "Oh, I'll bake the cake tonight (friday) and then just decorate tomorrow." Well, pound cakes take a long long time to bake... did I mention I was doing a layered cake! So I was up until 12:30 baking and letting cakes cool. I called Nichole a couple of times asking her a million questions and just so she knows - you CAN just use a cake mix! My mom used to decorate wedding cakes and I found out (from my sister Nellie, AFTER I had already started with the homemade fiasco) that through all the years of cake decorating my mom always used cake mixes. The cake turned out weird, it tastes more brownie-ish and the consistancy is thick like them also. I figured it was too late and I was going to just try and salvage it. The shape of the cakes didn't come out very good either, but I thought maybe the fondant would help hide it. I covered it with fondant and still was not very pleased. It turned out to be a Mad Hatter cake and I wasn't intending on it. (I just took pictures from a good angle so you can't tell as much). Once I got it all decorated it turned out okay. I'm sure Faye will love it when she sees it in the morning, as it is now mid-night again and I just spend another 2 hours tonight decorating after she went to bed. (I also spent about 3 hours this afternoon making the marshmellow fondant, and then covering the cake) Did I mention, this cake took FOREVER!?!

Don't you just love her little finger to the lip innocent look... kinda sexy for a kids toy?

I did really enjoy the decorating part, but this was definitely a learn-as-I-went-project. Making the flowers was pretty fun and I'm looking forward to learning from a pro instead of just making up my own techniques.

Blind as a bat... and staying that way!

Friday was a very depressing day. I went to see about getting Lasik eye surgery at Hoopes vision... and, you guessed it, I am not a good candidate! That really, REALLY sucks! I am so blind, i'm completely useless without contacts or glasses. With how bad my presciption is, they would have to remove a lot of my cornea, and mine is too thin to risk it. So crappy, I guess i'm beyond repair. The scary part... i'm only 29 (okay, okay, almost 30). So what does that mean for me as I get older? Seriously, when he came back to tell me it wasn't going to work for me I felt like crying. So for anyone who is wondering, my RX is a -9.50 and a -8.50! I hear people complaining all the time about how bad their eyes are, and I'll ask "What is your presciption?" They'll always answer with some puny RX like -3 or -4. So imagine being twice or almost 3 times worse than that! Life sucks and then you die.

Witchy Woman...

Me and the girls went to Gardner Village last thursday with my sisters, April, Nellie, and Susan, and ALL our kids (plus 2 extras). It was way crowded and my kids weren't cooperating with picture taking. Daphne wouldn't let me get a picture of her at all. However, I found the one with all the girls, and Keenan, and there she was. I didn't know I got one with her in it.
Here are some cute ones:

Faye, Phoebe and Ella

Finlay and Daphne discussing why the french fries are cut out so weird.

The whole motley crew.

Punkins

Faye and Chloe

Keenan and the girls

da tada dum dum, da tada dum dum.... (that's supposed to be the wicked witch music)

Brock Bama is funny... and not a Grandpa

Daphne is giving her endorsement. Today I was watching the news while making lunch for the girls, and they were talking about the presidential race. They said something about Barak Obama and Daphne turns to Faye and says "Brock Bama is funny huh?" What? Who knows, but I thought she was funny. I went on to tell her he was running for the President of the United States.

I forgot to add Faye's comment from a couple weeks ago, on her view of the candidates. I was watching one of the debates and I asked her who she thought I should vote for. Her answer: "Not the Grandpa. I think you should pick the guy with brown skin, I think he's handsome." Although I thought her comment was pretty interesting... what in the world am I going to do with this girl. My mom says she's going to need a chasity belt! She was just checking out High school boys, now she's moved on to middle-aged men!

Say Your Prayers, Sister!

Family Home Evening: Cookies... I think!?!

So what can I say, I didn't plan anything for family home evening. Daphne had a fake toy cookie and said she wanted to make cookies like it, so Sean took over and started marking some sugar cookies.

This is what Faye was doing while they were making cookies; her Christmas list. She kept asking me how to spell things, and honestly, I wasn't really paying attention (I know, what a crappy mom... yada, yada,). Well this is what she was writing and what she wants for Christmas. What the crap! She's 5 (almost 6) going on 12, I guess.

She then drew this below her list and told me it was Grandpa and Grandma Bray. I never knew my dad had a Guido mustache and hair like Nick Nolte's mug shot.

Now, onto the cookie making. Daphne was having a blast pushing the stool all over to where ever Sean was and talking his ear off. Phoebe was just following him around too, jibber-jabbing. As for the cookies... Sean has never made sugar cookies and I wasn't helping, so I had no idea things weren't going so great. Sean said the consistancy wasn't right, so he just tried to make them like regular cookies.

This is the finished product! I think he just needed more flour.... they don't look so great, but they tasted good, so we ate em up.

Girls Just Wanna : wash their hangs, have a ho-down, and wear some piggies.

Daphne is always washing her hands... it's annoying. She will go to the bathroom and be in there for 20 minutes, 19 of which she is washing her hands. On this day I was on the computer and I heard the water running, but couldn't figure out where it came from.... though I assumed it was her. This is how I found her.

Daphne was upstairs the other night just playing quietly for more than an hour, so Sean finally went to see what she was doing (since she is usually in some kind water... imagine that). She was just in the playroom, and, apparently having a square dance with all the Little People (as in Fisher Price, not the other kind). She told Sean they were all dancing. I wonder who lost the bet and had to dance with the troll?

Phoebe hair is sooo slow at growing. She apparently takes after me, since, according to my sisters, I didn't have hair until I was like 4. (Really it was about 2). Faye and Daphne had way more hair at this age. Well she finally got her first piggy tales... pretty pathetic. She looks more like a little devil.

The Toof Fairy has Kidney Stones

This has been such a fun week. I got a call from Sean's mom, Pat, last monday informing me Sean is at the ER at LDS hospital. His side hurt and they thought it might be appendicitis. Luckily it wasn't, but it was something else even more fun for him... a KIDNEY STONE. He was in so much pain and downing pain killers like crazy. He even had a couple of blessings from some neighbors and then one from his dad. So he has been out of work and every sort of commission... until finally today. Today was the day and it is finally OUT! Here are the gross pics.

Look at the pointly little edge... seems little but imagine what hole it has to come out! Yowzahs!

On a better note... Faye lost her first tooth. It had been lose for about 3 weeks. It has been ready to be pulled for a while, but I just let it works it way out. She just pulled it out tonight herself. She is so excited to have the Tooth Fairy come into her room, she asked me "Mom, can I go back to Fairyland with the Tooth Fairy?" and then she asked what the "Tooth Fairy's name was?" Sean told her is was Yolanda...
